Can I get leads through SEO?

My need to get my website optimized and for this I recently launched the process. I wish to see just how it would shape up and I am really happy about it. My desire is to use search engine optimization to gather leads. Is this possible in your opinion? Can I use Directory submission, Squidoo, social bookmarking or ads for my purpose? With this particular aspect, I am not familiar. Is there any SEO expert out there who can share their knowledge and opinions about this with me? Can someone help me to make leads with the aid of search engine optimization?
