I am having problems with the front page listing categories in alphabetical order, I have tried to use 'Reclassify categories in alphabetical order' found at the bottom of the first admin page, this classifies SOME of my categories but not all you will see another alphabetical order starting below SURGERY - DAY
it starts alphabetical order over with ASSISTED LIVING FACILITY, has anyone else encountered this?? Is there a solution?
The page is http://mountainmedicinedirectory.com/directory/
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Re: Directory Categories will not go into alphabetical order
see what you mean, i think this may be due to the way you entered your categories intitially so tweaking the mysql is probably the best way to fix it but that's fraught with dangers if you are a novice to mysql.
you got a very neat site. if you put the zip codes in the "address" field and the zipcode field your google map will apear faultlessly below the site detail screen.
you should post your nice template
i got >50,000 links in my specialist directory and its a bloody nightmare to fix when something goes wrong sql is very unforgiving my databases self destruct regularly when i tweak but i always make multi format backups so i can get back to a stable version in about ten minutes.
i got two or three arfooo directories http://reconoistre.com/ukcbg
http://conbhaill.info and
http://ukcbg.co.uk the last one ran out of band width!!!!
we got a problem with category enumeration if i enter the numbers manually vie sql it resets every thing to zero after a few hours. haven't solved this one yet, but when i do i will post the solution.

Re: Directory Categories will not go into alphabetical order
Thank you Hunter, It's actually a project for a friend, I understand what you Mean about it being the way i entered it, as mysql is not one of my stronger subjects but its getting better.. I used Excel to build the database i wanted exported to CSV then imported, I think if i create the list in Alphebetical order it will accomplish what I want, and my friend is also adding 700+ zip codes, that werent included in the first excel that i got, So that will be awesome, Will post when Solved!

Re: Directory Categories will not go into alphabetical order
I am also struggling with that sorting bug...
(ALTER TABLE doesn't help)
that's strange:
sorting works in the vertical categories menu (categories.tpl) and in the allcategories view (showAll.tpl)
so is the error in the category.tpl?

Re: Directory Categories will not go into alphabetical order
Any more question about that kind of problem. How can I sort the sites INTO a category by alphabetic order?
Lets assume I have a category A and a category b and c and d and so on...
Now someone puts a site into category A and another one puts one a few days later too. So there a 2 sites into the category. Now I want the NEWEST site showing on first position and the OLDEST site on a last position. The 2.0.1 script shows it exactly the other way. OLDEST first, NEWEST last. Why? I already looked into the source code and changed some values from ASCending to DESCending, but no change with that.
In the "New Sites" category everything is fine. Newest site one first postition, oldest site on last position.
In Arfoo Settings I choosed the "Website order by: Validation date" option.
Can anyone help with that?

Re: Directory Categories will not go into alphabetical order
hi,
the new arfoo template 202 had 3 columns on the frontpage, so there was an instruction to sort the categories 3 by 3
if you had only 2 columns on your temleate, sorting cas VERY curious.
so edit your template category/list.tpl to change the instruction, and evrything will go to the right place !
